June 8 Sooke Fishing Report

The fishing around Sooke seems to have slowed for big salmon, but the good news is there are plenty of smaller ones around.

Luke from vipfishing had a fantastic morning of fishing today at Secretary Island, catching 10 hachery coho salmon. He said it was like fishing for pink salmon, couldn't keep them off the gear, lots of fun. He was using green and white hootchies dipped in his anchovy box for scent and a red flasher at a depth of 40-50 feet. (and for the believers in electricity and fishing....he had the black box set to 650) He said it has been best in the mornings, slower in the afternoon.

Neil from Salty Towers Oceanfront Resort has also had some luck with smaller chinook salmon to 8 pounds and coho. He also reports the crabbing is quite good in Sooke Harbour, lots of big tasty Dungeness.

New Fishing Regulations released for Sooke waters: hatchery coho are now open, and chinook must be between 45-67cm wild or hatchery only above 67cm. Starting June 19, anglers can keep one chinook over 67cm (wild or hatchery) and one smaller.

Good luck out there!
