April fishing report for Sooke

Good fishing reported from Victoria to Sooke, as shown from these happy anglers from No Bananas Trevor.

The halibut was particularly good this weekend, summed up nicely  by Dave H "it was a hay-day for halibut today...hell, even we limited LOL".

See below for a video by Des from Vicious Fish Charters on how to filet a halibut, as well as a second one on suggestions for how to use up more of that halibut carcass and not waste the precious meat.

Get out there and catch yourself a nice halibut, your fish is out there waiting for you!

Doug from D&D Fishing Charters provided this salmon fishing report Thursday: "I fished with one person yesterday from 9 - 1 from the Sooke Bluff to Otter Point. Fishing start off slow and we had no action for the first 1.5 hour and then the bite came on. The fish were sitting in deeper (150- 160') water yesterday and we ran our gear at 145' . Glow heads and purple stripped squires both worked. At the end of the trip we landed two nice hatchery fish, lost 4 close at the boat and released one 29" wild fish that put up a great fight and made the client's day."

And Trevor from No Bananas Fishing continues to bring in nice halibut from the Victoria area

Looks to be nice weather this weekend...get out there and fish!

Victoria halibut fishing & Sooke salmon

Trevor from No Bananas Fishing Charters gives a Victoria halibut fishing update: "Well another set of tides has come and gone. The halibut fishing wad amazing! Limits on every trip up to 70 lbs. The weather was all over the map with west gales one day, SE gales the next and NE gales the next!
Needless to say there wasn't much fishing pressure out there which probably helped my cause. Lol"

Good salmon reports are coming in too.
Steve from Seawind Charters reports good salmon catches on Constance Bank -- mostly hatchery fish , 7-12 lbs, on squirts.

Doug from D&D Fishing Charters reports on Sooke waters: "We fished out front of Sooke harbour to Otter Point today from 0700 hrs to 1000 hrs for salmon.. Fishing was great and lots of bigger fish this trip. We released 2 over size wild fish (15+lb), Kept one hatchery 14lb and a 7 lb fish and lost 5 fish. We fished in 100 to 150 feet of water and the fish are close to bottom. Glow heads worked the best."

Keep an eye on the weather, get out there and catch a fish!

Sooke / Victoria Fishing Report, April 4

Sooke and Victoria's weather has been pretty marginal lately with cold temperatures, too much rain, and way too much wind. But the fishing has been pretty good, for those willing to brave the seas.

Here's a group of happy halibut fishermen back from a trip with Gord from Foghorn Charters. Gord says "they are happy for two reasons, first their catch and second being back at the dock. The weather
wasn't too great, but you work with what you get and do your time for some rewards".

Wise word from a good fisherman.

Also some good reports of salmon fishing around Sooke and Victoria, with some nice hatchery fish (keepers!) in the teens. So keep an eye on that weather, and get out and catch a fish!
