April Sooke Halibut and Crab Fishing

Lots of tales of nice halibut being caught in Sooke waters. Luke from VIP Fishing Charters reports: "Darryl and Johanne from Edmonton Alberta, caught a 20lb and 27lb halibut yesterday.  It was their first time fishing on the ocean and not the last time, they will be back for more action in August. We also had 7 crabs in the cage on our way back. The action was non-stop, we had about 10 big hits but hard to hook them on, as they stole our baits so fast. Also some ratfish were around. That is what you want, if the ratfish are there the Halibut are not too far!"

Sounds like there's some fun salmon fishing too ... most boats seem to report a keeper or two in the 6-8 pound range.

Just have to dodge those April showers, otherwise some nice fishing days out there lately.

April Fishing Sooke

Quite a few good reports coming in for fishing in and near Sooke.  Both halibut and salmon, as this photo from Vancouver Island Lodge shows.  And of course, early season crabbing in Sooke Harbour is usually excellent.

There's also been quite a bit of fishing going on out of Pedder Bay, out towards Constance Bank.  Seawind Fishing, No Bananas Fishing, and Foghorn Fishing Charters have all been posting lots of photos and good reports.  It sounds like the halibut fishing has been very steady and then some good salmon to be found too -- No Bananas reported catching a 20 pounder (which unfortunately had to be released, but it was a fun catch nonetheless).

Sunny weather, calm weather (at least in the mornings), no fog yet ... fishing weather!
